80*2=160
370-160=210
210/2=105
105*80=8400
20*35=700
8400-700=7700sqft

OK
Swimming pool = 20 x 35
Area of the SP = 700
Backyard perimeter = 370 (w = 80)
Perimeter = 2(80) + 2 L = 370
p = 160 +2L =370
2L = 210
L = 105
So the Perimeter of the yard is 80 +80 + 105 +105 = 370
The area of the yard is 80* 105 = 8,400
So if the total area of the yard is 8400 sq ft. and the swimming pool area is 700 sq ft. than the total area of the yard less the pool is:
8400 - 700 = 7700 sq.ft.
Hope this helps.

POOL:
W=20′, L=35′
LxW = area
(35)(20) = 700 sq ft [area of the pool]
BACKYARD:
W=80′, PERIMETER: 370′
2W + 2L = 370′
2(80) + 2L = 370
160 + 2L = 370
-160 + 160 + 2L = 370 - 160
2L = 210
(2L)/2 = 210/2
L = 105
(L)(W)=area
(105)(80) = 8400 sq ft [area of the backyard]
AREA OF THE BACKYARD MINUS THE POOL AREA:
8400 - 700 = 7700 sq ft
