It’s possible, but that sounds like a bad idea, since patios are usually made of wood. That might be a fire hazard.

I have seen fire pits at Costco that look very nice that burn fireplace logs or you can get propane gas logs. They don’t throw off sparks and look great.

Yes, I put in a concrete patio (stamped and stained to look like slate) on the outer edge I have a fire pit with a hand made iron and brass hood. Its quite sharp. It was featured in a local home and garden magazine. Did it all by myself for no other reason than to get into my wife’s pants more often.

Yes, it’s possible but most ordinances forbid outdoor burning unless in approved containers, check your local ordinance, you may even be able to check online. If it’s against ordinance, you might get away with it, but if you have an a-hole neighbor, forget about it.

    Yes, it can be done.

You don’t state if your patio is stone, concrete, or wood, but it’s possible to add a small fire pit to each.

Some things to consider… are there any children in the home? if so, I would suggest an outdoor fireplace, rather than a pit.

If you have a wooden deck, then a stand-alone unit like the fire place may be easiest too.

Next thing to consider, how high do you want the actual fire, from the floor surface? If you want it at, or near, the floor, this will entail some remodeling. Again, if this is a wooden deck, it is a good idea to put some stone around the fire pit, about 18 inches or so, like you would find a ‘hearth’ in front of a fireplace inside a home. This is in case any hot embers pop out of the pit.

A fire pit can be created out of stone and mortor, or heavy steel. There are several decorative options available these days. Do some shopping, see what you like :)
