Fireplace questions!?
By admin | May 15, 2008
donna asked:
I have a few questions about our fireplace.. The house we bought has a wood burning gas start fireplace. Its all brick with gold colored glass doors and a mesh screen inside.. my first question is can the doors be replaced? i mean i like them ok, but if there was an option in the future to have them replaced with black doors i think i would like it better. Also, the mesh screen inside doesnt stay closed on its own. Can this be repleaced? my MILs fireplace has 2 mesh screens one in front of the other would it be possible to install another one like this?
Also, We started off using duraflame logs for ocasional fires. first we just burnt one of those, then the next time we lit one of those then added more wood to it, now weve been using those to start our fire and then continue buring wood. Is there a better way to start our fires? My boyfriend says using the gas start will get to expensive over time. so what kind of firestarters do you use? i was told using paper is bad?
Also, ive read using a blower can help the heat fromt he fireplace going up the chimney, but what exactly is a blower? can a blower be installed on an existing fireplace? without taking too much away from the look of the fireplace?

If it’s a prefab you need to get the doors from the manufacturer
If it’s a masonry you can buy a set in the color you like.
You are probably spending more money on the duraflame logs then what you would spend in gas you only turn the gas on to get the fire going if you use kindling then a little bigger wood and then logs you will not need the gas for long.
