Garden/Backyard Idea?

By admin | May 14, 2008

kawaiihoushi asked:

I live in Las Vegas and I have a tiny backyard. My mother and I really want to spruce up the backyard but can't do anything too elaborate (especially with how often the plants die out here). Also-- I will not put cactus in because my cats go into the backyard with me. I really want a Japanese theme but I have no idea where to start. Do you? (Any ideas at all appreciated)

First off, Cat’s aren’t stupid…lol, you can plant cactus, they will not go near it, and if by chance they do, they will only do it once.
I know that Las Vegas is a hot climate, so when planting I would suggest using a cloth ground cover over the soil to keep it from drying out to quickly. Then research online plants that are suitable for your area. Make sure you check the size of each plant when full grown to insure that you aren’t over crowding your garden or planting tall stuff in front of shorter things. I live in NY so I am not sure what kinds of plants are good for your area. But draw a diagram of your area, Measure it and then you can make up a diagram of where each plant will go and how it should look when you’re finished. Oh…also when checking plants, see which ones come back each year and which ones do not. That is a big factor when it comes to cost. Especially if you’re on a budget and don’t want to re-buy every year.
    Good Luck and have fun.

Japanese theme…well, I would get some big pots, and plant clumping bamboo! They’ll give you some height without taking up too much space. Plan to put in sand somewhere, and rake patterns into it every few days. A small stone sculpture there would be nice, or something that you could put a candle in for abiance in the evenings.

Jappnesse Garden use the organic system at home design

paths which has the double circles shapes plus uses some stauts to landmark some of the main places in your garden

Saro tree as each leaves flowes every season can be covered with ice in the winter use one as landmark for your beauty garden

use the wood for the furinture of your garden beside platio for the entrence and for Tai chi and Chi kung training
    Have a nice a time
    God bless you

    Hi:
You can do different things using a Japanese theme. You could do a container garden and put a couple of Bonzai plants in the containers. You could also do a small Japanese theme with some natural rocks and a few evergreen drought tolerant evergreen shrubs. Junipers and Hollies are very popular in Yen gardens.

I will link you to my site map as this tells you everything that is on my website. Browse down through and there is a page in the garden section on Yen gardens. I will also link you to my gallery of plant section as this may give you some ideas for what to plant in your climate.

Good luck to you and I hope this has helped. If you need any further suggestions, please feel free to contact me at my website. Have a great day!
    Kimberly
