How can I set up a campfire/firepit in the woods?

By admin | May 18, 2008

Dil asked:

I want to setup a campfire/firepit in the woods in my backyard, but I don't want to light the trees on fire...is it too dangerous to do this in the woods? I found a flat spot where I can clear out and do this, but there are trees around. They're not that low, but I want to make sure before I actually do this.

Thanks

If you have a good enough clearing, dig a hole in the ground a few feet deep and pile rocks up all around it. Then just don’t biuld your fire really big and it should be fine : )

Use a gas barbecue its alot safer but if you use carcoal or wood if the trees are at least 100 feet away it sould be fine and remember to sweep the area around where you are going to put the BBQ (get all the sticks and junk away form the immediate proximate of the fire. That it safe campin’

    Happy trails

if u got some rocks or bricks make a circle where ud like to light ur fire and before u light it in the circle set it up and clear around it a good 5-10 feet (2-3metres) right round it and when u make the fire dont make the flames too high to catch fire

the pit/rocks is best but not mandatory…a large cleared area is needed and that means no firewood, grass,or leaves…a ring of big logs will work too

like u said dont want to start a forest fire. So just clear out a small area and watch ur fire dont let it burn by it self
